What And Who Is Just A Guy Coding?

It's a brand, a trade name, for my freelance developer work.

My name is Anthony. I have a BSc in Software Engineering and nearing 30 years' experience working with computers. Most of the work I undertake is contract based, project work, for small to medium sized businesses.

I have experience working with Windows, Mac OS and Linux platforms; a variety of programming languages and frameworks including C, C# , PHP, ASP.NET and JavaScript. I'm insured, conscientious, and can provide references.

How I Work And Do Business

Consultations, quotes, contracts, project management, design & coding.

I'm always happy to speak to clients about their upcoming projects and provide free no obligation quotations.

I can provide and work from PSD designs, supply build documentation (UML, E-R diagrams, Structured Design), work in a team (Git, CVS, Team Foundation Server), and develop using a test driven prototyping approach when possible.

Before development begins I ask clients to agree a project plan and sign a simple contract itemising our commitments to each other.

Specialised Hardware & Embedded Development

Software for bespoke hardware.

I worked in the broadcast sector for 10 years developing desktop and server side applications for television studios across the globe (Teletext, subtitles, voice recognition, video ingestion, content management), and have lots of experience with specialist hardware, specifications and technical standards.

Over the past 5 years I'm proud to have been working with Audio Design on their ProDAB product range, designed for professional monitoring of FM & DAB radio signals. The latest project required development of a web application capable of controlling and visualising the unit's state (Linux, PHP, Lighttpd) whilst offloading the processing burden to the client browsers (Javascript & JQuery).

CMS Website Development

Blogger, Wordpress and Umbraco.

Many of my clients expect websites they can update & maintain themselves so naturally I've developed websites on the big three CMS platforms: Wordpress, Blogger and Umbraco

The choice of CMS often depends on finance and infrastructure considerations. Charity, non-profit and voluntary organisations often opt for Blogger, with its free hosting, my portfolio includes a local Action group, political group and a Kindle author. Whereas businesses and design studios prefer Wordpress and Umbraco, like this site developed for a UK hardware manufacturer and the JAGC site you're viewing now.

Kindle Book Publishing

Do you need help publishing your book?

Did you know that Kindle books are built using the same technology used to develop websites?

I recently helped author Alex C Vick publish her Legacy of Androva series of books on the Kindle, working with her to select imagery, fonts, understand licensing, design covers (eBook & hardback).

If you have a book you'd like published I can help you convert from your word processor documents in to a Kindle eBook; provide an author's website with MailChimp integration and even give you some helpful tips on how to market and publish your book too.

Custom made, one of a kind websites, just how you want them.

Some projects require original design and specific, customised functionality. They may required a certain type of hardware, or a specific type of infrastructure, or to be integrated with other systems and technology. That's fine, I do that too.

I recently work for Inspiration Inc, a design agency, to produce an online reservation system for their client in the vehicle trade. The project was managed by the agency with the code designed and developed to their specifications by me (using ASP.NET MVC, Javascript, JQuery & SVG) . The site enables vehicle owners to lookup vehicles by registration, find their nearest dealerships, select dates from a customised calendar, retrieve address information based on postcode, enter discount codes and ultimately make their booking.
